Kitty Hawk Canby Oregon

Kitty Hawk Canby Oregon was blown off by the Tuesday explosion’s intensity, damaging neighboring residences and businesses.

The roof of a metal treatment plant in Canby was blown off after a huge explosion Tuesday afternoon, as shown in stunning new security footage that was made public on Friday. Outside the fenced-off metal treatment plant Kittyhawk Products, debris was still strewn on Friday.

According to firefighters, a 15-foot-tall pressure tank exploded, sending enormous chunks of debris hundreds of feet away in a geyser. Because of worries that a second tank at the plant would also be overheated, the incident led to a major evacuation that lasted until the next day.

At a nearby business, Bobby Fassold’s truck was struck by a large piece of shrapnel. A chunk of concrete was chipped out of the earth by another piece.

“I wasn’t sure if the building was going to come down,” Fassold said. “I thought I felt heat from the fire when I went outside to check things out, but it was that object on the ground that bounced and struck my truck; it was radiating heat.” I felt as though I was standing close to a bonfire.

Pink insulation was still strewn all over Brianna Heath’s backyard by Friday afternoon, when repair workers had covered a portion of her house a few blocks away with tarpaulin. The explosion caused a huge hole in the floor and sent debris flying through the drywall near the bathroom of her house.

No one was harmed, however Heath, her mother, and their two children were at home when it occurred. They are currently homeless and lodging in a hotel. She expressed gratitude that they are all still alive.

KGW is awaiting a response after contacting Kittyhawk Products for additional details. Investigations about the explosion are still ongoing.
